I confess: I have always been a book sniffer. I smell old book, new books, any books. I love reading on my iPod but damn, I miss the smell and feel of printed books.
Old book smell.
Did you know?
“Lignin, the stuff that prevents all trees from adopting the weeping habit, is a polymer made up of units that are closely related to vanillin. When made int paper and stored for years it breaks down and smells good. Which is how divine providence has arranged for secondhand bookstores to smell like god quality vanilla absolute, subliminally stoking a hunger for knowledge in all of us.”
I feel slightly less crazy for wanting to live in a nest of old books now! Neat!
